Hoop House Plans

You bethcha! I’ve been planning the construction of a hoop house for a few years now. The thought of an extended growing season in the north east is what first interested me in doing some research into putting a hoop house on our homestead.

In this research I discovered the actual cost of purchasing a kit and my plans had to wait. I just couldn’t justify the cost. I try hard to be frugal in how I make things happen. So it was back to the drawing board. YouTube videos, Pinterest boards and just general information on building one from scratch.

I started looking around for ways I could construct a frame at a minimal cost using recycled materials. The actual plastic film needs to be of greenhouse grade so it won’t need to be replaced every year but the frame is another story. I finally came up with it. Recycle trampoline frames. So the metal frame search began. It seems that every year people are wanting to get rid of old trampolines. Weather it’s because their kids no longer use them or they were damaged by storms.

In the coming months we will be determining the exact location and will start the groundwork for our hoop house. We know it will be 17′ wide but are still undecided on 20 or 30 feet in length. We will need a center ridge support, to securely ground it and construct two end walls. One with a fan to create a cross breeze during the the hot summer months and an end with a door of course. I am hoping for double doors which can be opened for easy access as well as an invitation for people to visit.

I hope you will join us on our adventure.

    1. Yes Mary I have looked into the PVC pipes. Cost effectively the metal of the trampoline frame is a more efficient and sturdy way to go. I’ve already accumulated a few frames for structural support and may add PVC in between. We also have a least two sizes of frames and hope to use the smaller ones for the construction of a new run for the new chicken coop.
