Harvest Moon

It’s amazing how quickly time goes by when your plate is full. Of course I don’t mean a literal plate but a metaphorical plate which is our lives. The last time I wrote was June 1st. and so much has happened since then. The first round of chicks we got were attacked before we could get them into the new coop/run space and the one remaining went to a friends house. We had to start over AGAIN! This time we bought them from the local garden/farm supply store after which I got a call that they were needed to find a home for the remaining chicks they had as spring was ending and the summer merchandise was moving in. We were back in the chicken game.

We also did a lot in the area of the garden. Our old raised beds served us well for many years but alas it was time for them to be replaced. We built a number of new beds which I will write about very soon to share. They worked wonderfully and although I didn’t get the yield of vegetables I hoped for it is like a new garden and the soil needs to be built up and amended. We have high hopes for next year. Fencing was a priority and we have encountered a few critters who have been enjoying some of our produce as well. The prospects of a few outdoor cats is in order in my opinion.

We look forward to getting back on some sort of schedule here and hope you all hang around and enjoy the progress we have made.
