Hello and welcome to our homestead! We are budding homesteaders wanting to share the trials and triumphs of starting from the ground up. I have a family background with gardening. My Mom comes from a family of farmers both big and small. Well I guess in reality medium and small. Mom has one of the greenest green thumbs when it comes to plants. We grew up in the garden with her and as many teenagers do I SWORE never would I ever…… He however did NOT come from a “hands in the dirt” kind of family. His Dad was a butcher and I have been told by quite a few people a great butcher he was.

I have been talking about living a more sustainable lifestyle for years and it was just this past summer that I heard the words I was praying for. “I think we should do it.” He had finally boarded my happy train! It only took 18 years to get him to the station but he was FINALLY on board!

We have big plans for what we want to accomplish but we have different approaches on the path to get there. He would just spend the money, buy all new materials and bam, it’s done. Me on the other hand I don’t mind, and frankly prefer, putting in the sweat equity, thought process and creativity not to mention saving those dollars by re-purposing as much as I possibly can.

It is our hope that you will enjoy following us on our adventure as we build fences, pens and gardens. As we grow the tried and true vegetables and expand into fruits. Enjoy the happiness of getting new baby chickens and fingers crossed a goat or two or three. We will be sharing what does and does not work for us along the way and hopefully some humor too.
